Ruminate

Ruminate is an exploration into the meditative process of creating playful, balanced compositions. Each painting starts with playful experimentation as the brush meets the paper, and advances into thoughtful exploration. They are culminations of my past Mark Studies, which investigate low stakes making through the use of gestural marks and mixed media on scrap paper. Ruminate takes these ideas further into a more sophisticated and refined use of color, collage, and form. There is an ongoing conversation between the gestural marks and various shapes, and emphasis is placed on materiality as I explores the way textures and materials work together to create these paintings. The overlapping methodology among my pieces unites their variety of materials and process.
